Why Meal Planning Is the Secret Weapon Against Decision Fatigue

Decision fatigue is the mental exhaustion that builds up after making too many choices in a given period of time. And let’s be real—as moms, we make hundreds (maybe thousands!) of decisions every single day.

What’s the priority right now?

  • Is it the laundry?

  • Cleaning a room?

  • Grocery shopping?

  • Meal planning?

  • Playing with the kids?

  • Tackling work tasks?

  • Or maybe finally taking a moment for self-care?

Every minute feels like a crossroads, and constantly weighing what matters most leads to decision fatigue. It’s real, and it’s something we all feel often.

One of the most relentless questions in my day is: “What’s for dinner?” That single question can send me spiraling—especially after a long day when I don’t have a plan. Without one, I’m tempted to grab takeout, or I find myself staring at a fridge full of groceries but somehow “nothing to make.” Cue the stress and wasted food.

But here’s the game-changer: weekly meal planning.

At first, I resisted. I told myself things like:

  • “What if I don’t want that meal on the day I planned it?”

  • “I don’t want to feel tied down to a schedule.”

And sure, sometimes those feelings pop up—but you know what’s harder? Not having a plan at all. When dinner rolls around and everyone is hungry (again), having no plan is far more stressful than sticking to the one I made earlier in the week.

Over time, I’ve realized meal planning isn’t about rigidity—it’s about freedom. Freedom from that last-minute stress. Freedom to actually enjoy meals together. Freedom to focus on what matters most: gathering my family around the table, sharing good food, and connecting at the end of a long day.

And the best part? A weekly meal plan is flexible. You can swap meals around if your mood changes. You can let your family help with cooking since everything is laid out. And when the groceries are already bought and ready to go, you actually save time, money, and mental energy.

So if you’re tired of the dreaded “What’s for dinner?” question and ready to cut down on daily decision fatigue—join me in planning meals weekly. It truly makes life simpler, calmer, and sweeter.

Here is last weeks meal plan:

This was the easiest meal of the week and honestly one of the ones that just made an impact when we all were so hungry. Here is our link to Mike's hot honey:

if you have not tried this run and grab some today! Add to eggs, pizza, chicken, especially salmon, waffles, anything really! It is the best!

Ok friends. Thanks for reading and hanging out with me. God bless!
